Why Proper Pool Opening and Closing Matters in New Hampshire
In New England, a proper fall closing is what protects your equipment from a hard winter. A pool closed incorrectly before a deep freeze risks cracked plumbing lines, damaged pumps and filters, and a stressed or stained liner over a long covered off-season. The spring opening matters too. A proper opening keeps the pool clean, balanced, and circulating so it is ready when the weather warms.
The steps that prevent freeze damage are easy to get wrong, and one missed step turns a routine closing into a repair bill. The cost of a freeze repair is far higher than that of a proper seasonal service. That is the reason to have it done right the first time.
Seasonal Timing in New Hampshire
Open between April and June, close between September and late October. In both cases, the temperature must be above 34 degrees on the day of service, as lines and equipment cannot be handled safely at freezing temperatures.
The closing window is where most homeowners run into trouble. Waiting until after the first hard freeze risks cracked plumbing and damaged equipment, and those repairs cost considerably more than the closing itself. Late October is the outer limit, not the target date.

Common Questions About Pool Opening and Closing
What is included in a pool closing?
A closing balances the water, adds winterizing chemicals, lowers the water level in in-ground pools, clears and protects the plumbing lines, and winterizes the pump, filter, and heater. It finishes with the winter cover fitted in place.
Can you open a pool that was not closed properly?
No. If the pool wasn’t properly closed, we don’t open it. Skipped steps at closing leave damage that doesn’t show up until water pressure hits the system, and we’re not willing to start equipment and have the failure land on us.
Do I need to be home during the service?
No. You don’t need to be there while we work. We do need access to two things: an outdoor spigot for your hose, and power. If either is locked, gated, or shut off at the breaker, we can’t do the job, so leave those accessible.
